FIRST ALBUM

The album cover, created by percussionist Hakan Kaya, reflects the enlightening power of music, the romance in TÜRKANA's original songs, and their ethnicity as depicted by the saz, the long-necked Turkish folk lute.

1.     KEYFİM YERİNDE

Although I miss your beautiful eyes, sweet smile, and the way you used to tell me " I love you" / I am very happy now / I can not be with you anymore / I've learned how to laugh, I cannot cry anymore/ You are the one who destroyed this love / you are the one who was unfaithful / How can you come back now and tell me that you love me?

2.       DüŞLERİMDESİN

You are the only flower in the garden of my heart / you are the only flame in my burning heart / When you looked into my eyes and said you don't want to, I understood that there is no place for me in your heart / but I have dreams and you are in my dreams / It is so wonderful to be with you and hold you even if it is in my dreams.

3.       SENİNLE

I fly to the summits of the mountains, over the plains, through valleys with you / I became the blue of the sky, the smell of the violet, and the wave of the Mediterranean with you.

4.       UD TAKSİMİ

Improvisational piece for oud (Turkish lute)

5.       SEVGİ PINARI

I am a leaf in the autumn that may fall with a wind, you are a bud in the spring that will bloom / you are a fountain of love that will overflow forever / Even though that leaf may fall, it will love you forever / I flew to the clouds with you / for the first time in my life I fell in love, fell in love with you

6.       SENELERDEN SONRA

Years later, we have met again / we looked at each other with teary eyes /

I was so hungry for your love that we've started again right where we left off / it feels as if we had never been parted, never been pulled apart by separate winds, never been burned by the sorrow of separation

7.       VALSA DAVET

Instrumental; the title translates as "Invitation to a waltz."

8.       PALANDÖKEN

The main melody of this piece is from the eastern Anatolian town of Erzurum.  This new interpretation by TÜRKANA includes an improvisational introduction played on saz (long-necked lute) and a drum solo.

9.       Makber

An example of Turkish art music, a song expressing longing for a beloved wife after her death.  TÜRKANA's instrumentation includes oud, violin, and sitar.

10.   KATİBİM (ÜSKÜDAR)

A traditional folk song from the Ottoman period of Istanbul that has become one of the eternal songs of Turkish music over the years.

11.   AĞIT

A new interpretation by TÜRKANA of the Macedonian folk song Žalna Majka, originally a lament for the famous Macedonian singer Blagoj Petrov Karagule, who was killed in an earthquake in 1963.

12.   SİNANAY

A traditional folk song from Anatolia.

13.   GURBET

"Gurbet" in Turkish means "abroad." This instrumental piece is an expression of longing for loved ones across the ocean in the motherland, Turkey.
